An excellent morning cigar to start a long holiday weekend. Nearly a two hour smoke that paired wonderfully with a maple pecan flavored coffee and a few chapters from a good book.
It was a rough looking wrapper. It was a bit lumpy in spots, had several soft-spots/voids up near the cap. I also noted a few fine cracks in the wrapper, but the only one that opened up is in the picture.
I had hints of espresso throughout the cigar. Had a pleasant tobacco smell/taste that lingered on the pallate, which I like.
Overall, not a bad smoke, but certainly not worth the expense. I may try a VSG or ESG before I give up on the brand.
Halfway thru it really came alive. Cream finish with notes of cedar and a classic mild profile you find in a lot of Connecticut wrapper smokes. Ever so Slightest hint of white pepper on the retrohale. Well suited for a breakfast cigar. I personally find the Ashton classic to fit that profile more and especially if your pairing with a coffee. There was nothing about this cigar that was bad. And the score is representative of what it is regarding its overall performance. Flavor is subjective but regarding flavor no off flavors were detected. The ding on the flavor was for muted flavor for a portion of the cigar. And when it did come thru the presentation just wasn’t a 5 star for the flavor both in delivery and complexity.
